Dr. Shelia Jackson Maye
Dr. Shelia Jackson Maye is a graduate of Virginia State University Bachelor of Science in Music Education), The University of Michigan (Master in Performance with minor in Opera) and Nova Southeastern University (Doctor of Education in Higher Education). She performs as a soloist in oratorio, faculty recitals, concerts, and as guest soloist throughout the region. She has been a Metropolitan Opera Regional Audition finalist and award winner, and has studied at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. She has performed with the Michigan Opera Theater and the Virginia Opera Company. She has also performed in master classes conducted by George London, Margaret Hawshaw and Martin Katz and her voice teachers have included Dr. Willis Patterson, Charlotte Holloman, Jane White, and Ellen Faull. As a University professor and administrator, her experiences include study in Management Development Program at Harvard University and serving at Hampton University as Executive Assistant to the President, Secretary of the University, Secretary to the Board of Trustees, and Director of the University Summer Session. Currently, she serves as Chairperson for the Department of Music, Professor of Voice, Executive Director for Miss Hampton University Scholarship Pageant and Chairperson of the Hampton University Musical Arts Society. Dr. Maye has the distinct honor of teaching extraoardinary students who go on to be exceptional singer-musicians.
