Dr. Nelly A. McRae is currently an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Business Spanish for the English and Modern Foreign Languages Department at Hampton University. She teaches all the levels of the Spanish language such beginners (SPA 101 & SPA 102); Intermediate level (SPA 201 & 202); Advance Level (SPA 301 & 302); SPA 405 (Advanced Language Proficiency); SPA 406 AfroHispanic Literature. Within the Business Concentration, she teaches Business SPA 217, Advanced Business SPA 317; Advanced Business & Culture I SPA 417 & Advanced Business Culture II SPA 423; SPA 419 Senior Capstone. She also teaches other courses as needed within the Literature & Culture Concentrations of the Spanish Major. She has over 25 years of Administrative experience acquired while serving in active duty and reserve status in the United States Air Force, and as a Management Analyst for E.L. Hamm & Associates, a minority Consulting & Engineering Company located in Virginia Beach.
Dr. McRae holds degrees from Southern California University for Professional Studies, Golden Gate University and Hampton University. She also has a Paralegal Certificate from the United States Air Force.
Actively recruit students to participate in the Beinecke Scholarship Program, awarded to only one student per institution once a year. Dr. McRae's expertise is in International Business, she has attended numerous International Business and Foreign Languages workshops nationally and abroad and within the last five-years has traveled to set-up study abroad for HU students in Puerto Plata, Santiago, Dominican Republic (Pontificia Madre y Maestra University); San Jose, Costa Rica (University of Costa Rica); Belize City, Belize (University of Belize); Alicante, Spain (University of Alicante); and Buenos Aires, Argentina (Universidad de San Andres). She has also conducted textbook reviews for The McGraw-Hill Companies, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Pearson Prentice Hall and Heinle/Cengage Learning.
Dr. McRae has conducted training workshops in Spanish. She is actively involved in the community serving as Hispanic Coordinator for the Boad of Directors of Self Protection Awareness (SPA), an AIDS/HIV organization, and is a long time bilingual volunteer for various agencies when needed in the local community as well as other organizations and faith-based communities.
