Mrs. Jaryn Crosby is a native of Anderson, South Carolina. She began her undergraduate studies at Hampton University. She completed her Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Music Performance and received her Master in Teaching degree also from Hampton University. She has done further study at Nova Southeastern University with an emphasis in Educational Leadership. She has served as the Music Specialist in several public schools in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia for over eight years.
Musically, Jaryn Crosby is actively involved on campus and in the community. She is proficient on the piano, violin, and viola. She frequently performs with the Hampton University Chamber Orchestra. Also, Mrs. Crosby has served as a music specialist for the Hampton University Music Summer Camp Program. She has also served as a clinician and adjudicator for various public schools and colleges for musical performances.
Professional achievements include presenting research at the National Association Symposium for the Performance of African American (NASPAAM) Conference in Birmingham, Alabama; and securing a Faculty Research Grant at Hampton University, which will study the impact of string instrument training with preschool age children and phonemic awareness. In addition to Mrs. Crosby's duties as Music Education Coordinator, she teaches applied piano and introductory music classes at Hampton.
Professional affiliations include membership in the National Association for Music Educators, National Association for the Study and Performance of African-American Music, Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education, Suzuki Association of the Americas, Gordon Institute for Music Learning, and a faculty advisor for Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity.
