Welcome to the Department of English and Foreign Languages Shakespeare Recitation Challenge

William Shakespeare

April 2016 marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. In honor of the playwright's life and works, the English and Foreign Languages Department challenges Hampton University students to compete for honor, glory, and prizes in the first-ever Shakespeare Recitation Challenge (SRC).

SRC Entry Guidelines

  1. Students interested in competing in the SRC will need to choose a minimum of twelve consecutive lines of verse from one of Shakespeare's plays.
  2. Complete and email the electronic entry form to efl.hamptonu@gmail.com by April 12.

The SRC will take place on April 14 at 5pm in Dett Auditorium, and will be judged by members of the School of Liberal Arts.

The winners of this competition will be awarded prizes by our generous sponsor: Miss Hampton II Cruises.

The SRC has been organized by English and Foreign Languages Department and the members of the Hampton University International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta. Questions about the SRC can be directed to Dr. Elizabeth Cuddy at elizabeth.cuddy@hamptonu.edu or the EFL Department at 757-727-5421.
